Smart Home, Smart Plumbing

Nowadays, every home appliance or device has smart home connectivity. Smart homes are all the rage, but did you know that you could have a smart plumbing system? That’s right, an interconnected plumbing system that will make your life much easier.

Leak Detection Systems

The first smart plumbing device is a leak detector system. These leak detectors detect the presence of water where there shouldn’t be. People usually put them in the basement, laundry room, or utility closets. Leak detection systems activate an alarm when water hits the sensor. They do not prevent water damage and major leaks but they alert them.

Homeowners can combine these leak detectors with automatic shut-off valves to create an interconnected leak detection system. The system will be able to alert the homeowner when they are set off.

Automatic Shut Off Valve

A shut off valve to the toilet, sink, and others, they cut water off to the appliance. You typically have to go in and turn the valve yourself at every plumbing fixure. When combined with the leak detector, an automatic shut-off valve can turn off the main water supply when a significant leak is detected.

Water Monitoring System

Another smart plumbing device is a water monitoring system. These monitoring systems monitor all the water flow through the home. It will also track water flow, pressure, and temperature to determine normal activity and be able to know what is abnormal.

The water monitoring system may be able to help identify small leaks in the home if it notices an abnormal amount of water usage.

This smart device can also help conserve water in the home. Homeowners can see in the app, how much water they may use and be able to make efforts to change the amount of water they are using.

Smart Faucets

While touchless faucets have been around for a while, they are making some upgrades to faucets. You can get a faucet that is connected to your virtual assistant. You can ask the assistant to turn the faucet on & off, and even ask it to dispense a certain amount of water or even a certain temperature.

They also make shower heads that do the exact same thing. That way you can have your shower automatically the temperature you want without having to fiddle around with it.

Water Heaters

Besides the newer tankless, water heaters have remained relatively unchanged until recently. They are now coming with wifi and bluetooth capability. You can change the temperature settings or even put it on vacation mode from the app on your phone. There are also features that show the water usage, how much you use, and conditions of the water heater.

Sprinklers

These smart plumbing sprinklers allow you to turn them on from anywhere. You can be on vacation or at the grocery store. Some models can even connect to weather systems or have knowledge about the plants in your yard to water them for the perfect amount of time. Additionally, certain models may have the capability to shut off if rain is detected, preventing water wastage.

Toilets

A toilet is a toilet, right? You may think that, but a smart toilet is going to change our life and comfort level. Some have connected bidets and dryers. Some can play music or noise to hide some of the noises you may hear. There are heated seat options, and tilt options on some of them.

Final Thoughts

All these smart plumbing systems can make your home safe from water damage, give you much more convenience and comfort in your home. From leak detection to a toilet that has all the features and more, adding smart home plumbing is always a good idea.
