Your Toilet Is Sweating? (Here’s How To Stop It!)

Have you ever found that the outside of your toilet “sweats” more often than not? This tends to be a common problem in a lot of homes, but there are a few ways to fix it. The outside of your toilet “sweating” is also known as condensation.

Learn more about why your toilet might be sweating and how you can fix it below.

What Causes Your Toilet To Sweat?

When summer hits and the weather has an intense mix of hot temperatures and humidity, there is a ton of moisture in the air. The water that is in your toilet is cold and the humidity and heat will affect your toilet by building up condensation on the outside of it.

This can be a true inconvenience because if it continues to condensate, it will eventually start to drip on the floor and make a puddle of water…and who wants to clean those up all the time? It really is a simple problem with a couple options on how to fix it.

The heat and humidity, especially during the peak of summer, can affect the amount of condensation on the outside of your toilet bowl.

Ways to Stop Your Toilet From Sweating

One of the best ways to get your toilet to stop sweating is to put a dehumidifier or an air conditioning unit in your bathroom. This will help keep all of that extra moisture out of there and your toilet sweat-free.

Also, installing an anti-sweat valve will help your toilet from condensating so much as well. You can attach this to the water supply that leads to the toilet. An anti-sweat valve will raise the temperature of  the toilet bowl’s water so the toilet will be less likely to condensate. As long as the water is at a warm enough temperature, the toilet won’t sweat anymore.

This is an anti-sweat valve. What the valve does is it feeds into the hot water supply so the hot and cold water can mix and create warmer water inside the toilet bowl.

In my own personal experience, it has helped tremendously to make sure that the bathroom exhaust fan is on when showering so it can help reduce the amount of moisture in the bathroom at once. I’ve also found that making sure to leave the bathroom door fully open after showering can help that moisture dry up and to also make sure that there is a constant flow of air moving through there from the rest of your house.

This is typically what an exhaust fan looks like in any household bathroom. Making sure that your exhaust fan is on can make a big difference in the moisture that is sticking around in your bathroom.

Other tips that can help stop your toilet from sweating include:

  • Take shorter, cooler showers
  • Dry the shower walls after a shower
  • Don’t open the bathroom window if you know it is humid outside
  • A whole-house dehumidifier would help with any moisture issues throughout the entire house

How To Install An Anti-Sweat Valve

Installing an anti-sweat valve doesn’t take much and is actually quite simple to do on your own. You can find the valve at your local home centers or online.

  1. Coat the threads of the compression adapters with sealant (pipe joint compound)
  2. Thread the adapters into the valve ports. Make sure to tighten them!
  3. Slide a nut and compression ring onto each pipe
  4. Insert the pipes into the adapters
  5. Coat each compression ring with pipe dope
  6. Thread the nuts onto the adapters
  7. Tighten each nut with a wrench
  8. Make sure to turn the water valve back on and check for leaks

With a little plumbing knowledge, installing an anti-sweat valve can be done by anybody. The steps are quite simple so it shouldn’t cause you too much of an issue. Over the course of a few days, you should notice a tremendous difference in the temperature of the water bowl as there should be no more condensation on the outside of the toilet.

Final Thoughts

An excessive amount of condensation on the outside of your toilet can be a real inconvenience. It can create a puddle of water on the floor the longer you allow it to drip. Using these tips to prevent your toilet from sweating so much can help a ton when you need it to stop quickly.

The best and most effective fix would be installing an anti-sweat valve. Installing this would allow you to be stress-free from excessive condensation on or around your toilet. This is a great thing to consider.
