America 250: Celebrating Hard Work, Louisville’s Skilled Trades & the People Who Keep Our Homes Running
As America celebrates its 250th birthday, we’re spending each month at 1-Tom-Plumber Louisville recognizing one of the foundations that helped build our country.
For September, that foundation is hard work and our Louisville Plumbers.
It’s a fitting theme for the month when we celebrate Labor Day—and especially fitting for those of us who make our living in the skilled trades.
At 1-Tom-Plumber Louisville, we see hard work every day. We see it when our plumbers head out early in the morning. We see it when a drain technician is working through a stubborn clog, when a plumber is replacing a failed water heater, or when our team answers the phone after hours because a Louisville homeowner has a plumbing emergency that can’t wait until morning.
It isn’t always glamorous work.
But it is important work.
And this September, we’re proud to celebrate it.

America Was Built by People Who Knew How to Work
When we think about America’s history, we often think about presidents, generals, inventors and entrepreneurs. But the country we know today was also quite literally built by people working with their hands.
Carpenters. Blacksmiths. Masons. Pipefitters. Electricians. Mechanics. Farmers. Construction workers. And, eventually, plumbers.
Generations of skilled tradespeople built the homes, roads, businesses and infrastructure that allowed American communities to grow.
That’s especially easy to appreciate here in Louisville, Kentucky.
Louisville grew from a small settlement along the Ohio River into a major American city because people built it. They constructed homes and neighborhoods, warehouses and factories, bridges and businesses. As Louisville expanded into communities like the Highlands, Germantown, Old Louisville, St. Matthews, Middletown and Jeffersontown, generations of tradespeople helped build—and continue to maintain—the city around us.
Today, skilled trades remain just as important.
The tools may have changed, but somebody still has to do the work.
We’re Proud of Our Louisville Plumbers
There’s something we particularly like about this month’s America 250 theme because hard work is what our Louisville plumbers do every single day.
Plumbing is one of those things most of us don’t think much about when it’s working.
Turn on the faucet. Water comes out.
Take a shower. Hot water is there.
Flush the toilet. Everything disappears.
Until suddenly…it doesn’t.
That’s when the work of a skilled plumber becomes very real.
Our team serves homeowners and businesses throughout Louisville Metro and surrounding Kentucky communities, as well as Southern Indiana, handling everything from plumbing repairs and water heaters to clogged drains, sewer problems and emergency plumbing calls.
And while we’re pretty easy to spot in our pink trucks—and we’re certainly not shy about our pink plungers—the work behind all that pink is serious.
We’re proud of the men who put on a 1-Tom-Plumber uniform every day and do that work.
Hard Work Also Means Taking Care of What You Have
There’s another side to September’s America 250: Hard Work theme that applies to homeowners, too.
Sometimes the smartest work is taking care of something before it becomes an emergency.
Your water heater is a perfect example.
Most Louisville homeowners probably don’t spend much time thinking about their water heater. It sits quietly in the basement, utility room or garage and works day after day.
Over time, however, sediment and mineral deposits can collect inside the tank. Regular water heater maintenance and flushing can help remove that buildup and gives a plumber an opportunity to look over the unit for potential concerns.
It’s a relatively simple piece of home maintenance that is very easy to forget.
Until there’s no hot water.
Or there’s water on the floor.
And suddenly that forgotten appliance has everyone’s attention.
Our September Special: $99 Water Heater Flush
So, in honor of Labor Day, America’s skilled trades and the hardworking Louisville plumbers on our team, our September America 250 offer is:
$99 Water Heater Maintenance & Flush
It’s our way of connecting this month’s celebration of hard work with something practical you can do for your home.
If you haven’t had your water heater maintained recently—or you can’t remember the last time it was flushed—September is a great time to have it checked.
And there’s another reason we like doing this now.
Fall is coming.
Before Louisville moves from September afternoons into cooler fall weather and eventually another Kentucky winter, it’s a good time to make sure the equipment your family depends on for hot water is being properly maintained.
250 Years Later, Skilled Trades Still Matter
America has changed enormously over the past 250 years.
Our homes have changed. Our cities have changed. Our technology has certainly changed.
But some things haven’t.
Communities still depend on people who know how to build, fix, repair and maintain the things the rest of us rely on every day.
That’s why this September, we’re celebrating the skilled trades—and we’re especially proud of our own crew at 1-Tom-Plumber Louisville.
We’re proud of our hardworking plumbers.
We’re proud to serve Louisville and the surrounding communities.
And we’re proud to be one small part of America’s long tradition of people who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and get the job done.
Proud to do the hard work. Our Louisville Plumbers.
And when that hard work involves your plumbing?
Think Pink.
