Brushed Nickel Kitchen Faucets: A Shoppers Guide!

Recently, the brushed nickel finish has emerged as one of the most popular choices for kitchen faucets. But is it really better than long-standing favorites like chrome and stainless steel?

Let’s find out!

What Makes a Good Kitchen Faucet?

Before we dive further into brushed nickel kitchen faucets, it’s important to understand what characteristics really make a kitchen faucet worth your hard-earned cash.

When looking for a new kitchen faucet, you need to consider the following:

  • Spout height and reach — make sure there’s enough room to wash without spilling water onto the countertop
  • Pull down vs conventional sprayer pull-down sprayers are more convenient and flexible for kitchen use
  • Number of holes in the sink — installation will be much easier if your faucet and sink use the same number of hole mounts
  • Single vs multiple handles — single-handle kitchen faucets are more convenient
  • Ceramic valves — best for prevention of leaks
  • Consider the finish — brushed nickel is grime- and stain-resistant

What is a Brushed Nickel Kitchen Faucet?

Whether you’re planning to remodel your kitchen or just change up your kitchen faucets, the finish you choose can change the whole look of your kitchen.

Using tools similar to a brush, nickel can be finely etched for a metallic look. This technique gives nickel a warm look and creates a hand-crafted, antique feel not provided by chrome or stainless steel.

When light hits the brushed nickel, beautiful tones of golden and white can be seen that are a great compliment to any earthy, warm-colored room. Specifically, a brushed nickel kitchen faucet complements granite, slate, and stone kitchen counters.

In addition, brushed nickel is also known to effectively hide water spots and grime which makes cleaning easier and less often. Many home appliances can be made using brushed nickel to match your new kitchen faucet, including:

  • Door knobs
  • Lighting fixtures
  • House numbers
  • Cabinet hardware
  • Bathroom fittings

Installing a Brushed Nickel Kitchen Faucet

  1. Check underneath your kitchen sink to see how many mounting holes there are. A three-hole faucet won’t work in a single-hole sink. But you can use a single-hole faucet on a three-hole sink by adding other appliances, like a soap dispenser, to cover the remaining holes.
  2. Turn off water valves located beneath the kitchen sink. Some sinks use more than one water valve. Then turn your sink on to remove all excess water.
  3. Go to your circuit board and turn off the electricity to your garbage disposal and then unplug it from the wall.
  4. Then place a bucket underneath your water valves and unscrew water tubes connecting to the sink.
  5. Use a wrench to remove nuts and bolts that hold the sink in place. We recommend that someone helps hold the sink in place to make this step easier.
  6. Remove sink from the workspace and clean the surrounding area.
  7. Assemble the new brushed nickel kitchen faucet and place the trim ring or deck plate into the sink’s mounting holes.
  8. Then feed the water tubes into the holes and position the faucet.
  9. Install the nuts and mounting brackets underneath the sink.
  10. Attach water tubes to the water valve (do not over tighten).
  11. Then turn on the water valves and garbage disposal.
  12. Turn on the faucet to make sure water dispenses, then check for leaks.
